Social marketing tips: How do you write a great blog?

0 Social marketing tips: How do you write a great blog?Social marketing tips from Penny Power, Founder of business social network Ecademy, whom talks about the power of a great blog, and how you can get it behind your site. See more business news television shows featuring these experts, as they give their top expert business advice at http://www.yourbusinesschannel.com
Penny Power: How would you actually phrase a blog, how would you write? I think people have different writing styles, again remember its not about broadcasting, people dont want to be broadcasted out. I find the most enjoyable blogs are ones where people, I feel like they’re talking to me, I feel like they’re sharing some useful information, its not, they’re not too long and they know when to stop rambling, they know something that’s interesting and they’re saying it in a conversational style so I would tend to sit down and write something almost as if I was having a conversation with someone. Broadcasting is something you shouldnt do; just shouting the information to people is very off putting.

SEO Your Blog the Right Way

0 SEO Your Blog the Right WayWith well over 100 million blogs online, it’s certainly not easy to get noticed. But blogging is inherently SEO friendly. Why? Because search engines look for fresh content. And if you’re using your blog correctly (i.e. you’re updating it consistenly) then getting great SEO results is just a matter of time.

One good way to differentiate yourself is to find a niche. Even if you’re in a crowded industry, you have to search out niches within that industry.

This is where SEO comes in. The first thing you must do is target the keywords your customers, or potential customers, are using to find solutions in your industry. Keywords are, well, key. You want to select keywords that are popular and relevant to your site. At the same time, you don’t want to target what I call crowded keyword markets.

For example, let’s say you’re a shoe seller. Now, the keyword “shoes” is big…too big. Even if you blogged for years you probably wouldn’t be able to compete for that term. Look at your shoe business and find something you can differentiate yourself with. Are you the largest shoe seller in the county? Do you make custom boots? This may seem trivial but it’s absolutely necessary if you want your blog to rank well in the search engines.

Time Driver is a free application that lets people schedule appointments with you, on the phone or in person. It’s great for coaches or consultants, for example, who schedule one-on-one calls with clients. It can sync with Google Calendar or Outlook and has a desktop application, too.

Google has made changes to its blog search engine, so that if it indexes a comment on a blog, it lists the comment next to the link to the original blog post. This will give full credit to the original blog where the comment was posted, as may help cut down on comment spammers.

Iterasi is a new web tool that allows you to save, catalog, and share the content of complex websites. It allows you to save a snapshot of a dynamic website so you can go back and look at a page just as you had seen it before, even if the content changes. Much more powerful than a bookmark, this allows you to be able to view a page of Digg, for example, just as it was five days ago. And you can email the saved version to others, as well.

Link Diagnosis is another great SEO tool. You type in a link to a webpage you want to inspect, and you get back a full report of PageRank distribution, the number of incoming links, and the more popular pages on the website. And it has a Firefox plugin that gives you a more complex reported.
