How do you promote a website?

I started my own website called www.storyjoin.com and I’ve been trying to promote it in blogs and forums but people seem to think it’s just spam. How can I avoid this without having to pay someone to promote the site for me?
you need to make an over the top video and at the end put your website, up load it to you tube and let it grow…
